Ramesh “Nic” Iyer Bio

My directing style is a combination of storytelling and smart comedy infused with dramatic elements.  My strength is in capturing subtle performances in unusual situations, all with a fun and irreverent sensibility. This a skill that’s invaluable when working with name actors, celebrity athletes, and real people casting.

My work is part of MOMA in New York, and I’ve won an AICP Award. I’ve also been nominated for two ADC Young Guns Awards at Cannes, won 7 Addy Awards, and was nominated for a London Music Video Award. I recently directed the Adverse Web Series starring a group of stand-up comedians and well-known comedic actors.

I grew up in America with a British mother, an Indian father, and an African-American stepfather, which made for a really unique and often times comedic upbringing. I spent my summers in England living in a huge Victorian home where my aunt, a fine artist who was head of the Wood Engravers Society would have a parade of artists, photographers, and fashion designers living on the various floors. The kitchen is where everyone would congregate to share stories and ideas, and I would listen intently, absorbing it all.

I started out conceiving, writing and designing treatments for feature directors bidding on commercials. Later, I worked on both the creative and production side of advertising. This shaped my directing approach to working with and understanding the language of agencies and clients.

When not shooting, I work with gifted and talented teens on the autism spectrum.
